Networking
In the old Webster 1828 dictionary,
network was a complication of threads, twine or cords united at certain
distances, forming meshes. It could also be interstices or open spaces
between knots or intersections. Today it could mean a complicated
intermingling of lines, passages or the like, as in a network of roads, or
in communications a series of broadcasting entities (television, radio,
internet, etc.). I find "networking" in Matthew 4:21, and I
choose to use the word as it relates to the Bible. "And going on from
thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his
brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he
called them."
These men were commercial fishermen,
having come from a night of fishing on the Sea of Galilee. In the run of a
night their nets would suffer damage from catching an obstruction on the
bottom, or from basic general wear. "Networking"
was a daily chore before resting, in order to be ready for the next night
of labor. This networking was a must if any success in the fishing
industry was to be maintained. (Holes in your net could cause a great loss
of income.)
This networking always reminds me of
people's lives. Through walking across this planet, we come in contact
with many problems that tear holes in our lives. These holes must be
mended if life is to be meaningful. Satan tore into the lives of the first
man and woman. It took God to repair the damage that sin did. He did so by
shedding the blood of an innocent lamb (Genesis 3:21). We could well say
God is a great networker! For us who live in this age, Satan continues to
be at work to destroy and tear us apart though sin.
The Lamb of God was God's solution to
this destruction. I personally can say I know what it is like to be
repaired, to have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of
sins. I highly recommend this networker. He can mend a broken net (life)
to make it again useful and, in His sight, of great value.
Watch for the holes! They have
appeared in my life now that I am a believer. While Satan no longer can
have my life, he desires to cut my effectiveness. Be as wise as those
in Matthew 4 who were daily in the ship "...mending their
nets..." Hey! You too, might even get a special call one day from
God's Son, "...Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Take a good look at your life. Is
there a need for Network?
